Nevada Ballet Theatre presented Dracula at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, Reynolds Hall.

Dracula was first created by choreographer Ben Stevenson in 1997 as a production co-commissioned by Houston Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Tulsa Ballet has performed this production twice (most recently in 2012) to sold out audiences. Tulsa Ballet Artistic Director Marcello Angelini says, “Dracula is successful beyond any expectations because every element of the production excels and each and every component complements the other, adding a layer of artistry and entertainment to the show.”
It was a hauntingly unforgettable performance that filled the stage with eerie gothic grandness, from its costumes and sets, to the glorious love triangle at the center of its iconic tale by Ben Stevenson’s Dracula. Set to the music of Franz Liszt, this world of sweeping movement, ingenious stage effects, and dark, rich coloring enveloped you in its haunting world of evil temptation.
The production definitely had the feel of a Broadway show; with it's inspiring stunning theatrics, vampire brides who soar through the air, and an exploding chandelier, just amazing.
Prior to the performance, NBT presented insights, and an educational per-performance discussion that offered patrons an opportunity to further engage with the ballet, with special guests, multi-media presentations and more.

Downtown’s Thunderbird Hotel Gets A Retro Makeover

Located north of the Strip and south of downtown, a place of diners, neon wedding chapels, scooter rentals, strip clubs, pawn shops and the famous Luv-It Frozen Custard, is the new remodeled Thunderbird Boutique Hotel & Lounge located in the middle of the action and somehow remote.
California-based developer Ilan Gorodezki and his partners purchased the property in 2016. In 2017, the developer considered turning the property, once known as the Aruba, into a 15-story, 370-unit mixed-use apartment and retail space called the Thunderbird Lofts, according to reports.
The plans upset some residents in nearby neighborhoods, who thought the tower might dilute the area’s historic atmosphere. Despite receiving approval from Las Vegas, the developers ultimately opted to keep the original two-story motel structure intact and simply remodeled it.
What's New:
More than $5 million of renovations later, the revamped Thunderbird is gleaming with new life and a classic Las Vegas allure. The Garden of Love wedding chapel perfectly encapsulates the renewed property. A majestic 60- to 100-year-old pine tree stands for an altar. Only the trunk and a few bottom branches are visible because it grows through a glass roof and soars into the sky. Dappled sunlight shines down upon the place where a couple would stand. The tree gives a sense of almost magical spirituality to the room, a reprieve in the midst of white marble floors and Las Vegas glitz.
The tree is one of those strokes of genius that only come about via a thoughtful remodel. Originally, the tree was growing in an outdoor courtyard and was slated to be chopped down to make way for a new vision. Instead of being removed, it was made into a centerpiece, creating something better than brand new. Prices range from $300-$700 (not including minister fee) for the 60-person chapel. The high-end “Majestic” package includes champagne toast, online ceremony live stream, unity candle or sand ceremony, flowers, custom music, digital photos and DVD, a personal wedding coordinator and use of the “royal bridal room with refreshments.” The second and smaller chapel is more traditionally Vegas. Called the Crystal Wedding Chapel, it boasts crystal chandeliers and a bedazzled podium. It holds up to 40 guests, and prices range from $100 to $500 (minister fee not included). Petra Doerr, who runs the wedding chapel, says they were going for something “modern, unique and clean.” Previously, the smaller chapel had a very masculine feel. Doerr took it in a more feminine direction and added “a little Las Vegas glitter.”
The Rooms:
“It’s easier to build than repair,” said, Shay Mordo, the director of operations. “But the vision was, ‘Let’s go make it happen, no matter what.’” The 100 hotel rooms have a comfortably modern look. Rustic wood headboards give an earthy vibe, which balances some of the shinier mid-century modern highlights, such as trendy rugs and lamps. A turquoise, orange and yellow color scheme keep it interesting. The exterior doors of the rooms are painted in alternating orange and yellow-green. The small lobby continues the visual theme, with sleek concrete floors, walls that have been clad in the reclaimed wood, and a single graphic lime-green painting for decoration.
Located in a separate building, the carefully decorated “Presidential” suite overlooks the outdoor pool. There are also eight junior suites. Areas that would once have been dead space have been upgraded to outdoor lounges. These small islands of leisure space boast trendy outdoor furniture and lighting — like little islands of cool. An empty rooftop outside some second-story rooms is primed to be a future garden seating area. “There are always more projects,” Mordo jokingly said. “Always something to do.” Weekend prices range from about $190 per night for a 200-square-foot single queen room to $360 per night for a 600-square-foot premium suite. Weeknight prices range from $45 to $195 per night, respectively.
Entertainment options
Throughout its history, the Thunderbird has often hosted live performances. It also has been a hotspot for the swing dance crowd in addition to hosting the Neon Reverb music festival about a decade ago. A revamped 3,500-square-foot showroom can hold up to 300 or 350 guests, depending on the configuration. The numbers are big, but also small in comparison to the titans on the Strip. Sitting in the new disc jockey booth, Mordo clicks through the new lighting configurations to show that the room is ready to party. In addition to the showroom, the lounge has a small stage and projector, allowing for a second, more intimate event venue.
Even Mordo admits the Thunderbird is not located in the best part of town. The area is huge on vintage charm, which also includes a local homeless population. But the rough edges belie a possible bright future. It’s one of the closest hotels to the Arts District, which is finally gaining steam. And it’s near offbeat attractions such as Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum and the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. The Thunderbird has managed to make itself new without sacrificing its history, and it's uniquely situated for the next iteration of Las Vegas. “The current owners have done an admirable job with cleaning up that property over the past few years, said Realtor Steven Franklin, who goes by the nickname Downtown Steve. “It’s certainly an improvement from what it had been.”
Eatery:
Historic photos of Old Vegas line the hallway to the lounge and restaurant. Some of the photos depict the former Strip hotel also called the Thunderbird — no relation, except perhaps spiritual. Kelley Jones Hospitality in partnership with Todd Parmelee have built a new food and beverage program for the modern Thunderbird which features hearty crowd-pleasers, such as a “Hangover” breakfast burrito, pork belly sliders, a steak and potato wrap, fish and chips, flatbreads and a veggie burger. The lounge offers bartop gaming, pool, beer pong and a full bar. Cocktails include Bloody Marys, the Blue Suede Shoes (orange and grapefruit vodka, citrus juices, blue curaçao and lemon-lime soda) and the 1948 Cocktail (whiskey, Aperol, vermouth and chocolate bitters).

cid:image003.png@01D44464.71E66550Former “Jersey Boys” Star Jeff Leibow Enlists Entertainers Including All-4-One, Human Nature, Clint Holmes, Earl Turner, MO5AIC, and more to Raise Money for and Awareness of Neurofibromatosis

Las Vegas' most prominent entertainers will take the stage at Las Vegas’ 8th Annual NF Hope Concert on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at The Palazzo® Las Vegas. Benefit organizers Jeff Leibow, formerly of “Jersey Boys,” and his wife Melody, have once again united the entertainment community bringing together a who's who of Las Vegas performers, including Human Nature, All-4-One, Clint Holmes, Earl Turner, MO5AIC, and many more in an afternoon spectacular to raise money and awareness for the Neurofibromatosis Network, an organization dedicated to families and individuals suffering from Neurofibromatosis (NF), and the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation to support NF families in Southern Nevada.  Tickets start at $49 and can be purchased at any box office at The Venetian or The Palazzo, online at palazzo.com, or by calling 702-414-9000 or 866-641-7469. A limited number of VIP tickets are available by emailing info@nfhope.org.

Since the inaugural event in 2011, the “NF Hope Concert” has grown by leaps and bounds, with more than $625,000 raised for Neurofibromatosis research and advocacy and growing to three cities – Las Vegas, New York City and Chicago. This year’s all-star lineup includes the Grammy® Award-winning R&B Pop group, All-4-One; Las Vegas headliners Human Nature, the Las Vegas debut of Finding Faith featuring Andrew Tierney of Human Nature; award-winning Vegas headliners Clint Holmes and Earl Turner; a cappella sensation MO5AIC; cast members from Cocktail Cabaret; Broadway’s Ava Della Pietra from “School of Rock”; songstress Nicole Pryor with Las Vegas Academy Choir; and Jeff and Melody Leibow with a special guest appearance by daughter Emma; as well as some surprise guests. Consummate emcee, Vegas radio star, and longtime NF Hope supporter, Chet Buchanan, will return to the Palazzo Theatre stage to support Leibow and lend his hosting duties.

Las Vegas music icon, Keith Thompson, will be presented with a special award for his tireless commitment to the NF Hope Concert since its inception.  Thompson will be honored during the afternoon with the distinguished Advocate of Hope award.  Composer Keith Thompson has had a prestigious musical career and his work has received critical acclaim. Musical Director and Conductor credits include The Producers (Las Vegas), the North American premiere of We Will Rock You (Las Vegas), Hairspray (Las Vegas), Cabaret (National Tour with Teri Hatcher and Lea Thompson, Australian Musical Supervisor, Dora Award winner), Mamma Mia (First National Tour), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (with Donny Osmond).  His New York credits include Les Miserables, Tommy, Forbidden Broadway, and When Pigs Fly.  Thompson is currently receiving critical acclaim for Cocktail Cabaret at The Barge in Caesars Palace and the monthly Composer’s Showcase at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

“We are touched every year by the generosity of the patrons who purchase tickets to the concert,” says Jeff Leibow, Director of Development for NF Hope® Concerts and Board of Directors member, Neurofibromatosis Network, “but it is people like Keith Thompson, who invest their time and talent to make it successful that take our breath away.”

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder of the nervous system characterized by tumors that can grow on any nerve in the body without warning. Leibow’s young daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with this condition in 2010 when she was just nine months old. As Leibow and his wife, Melody, learned more about the disorder’s devastating effects, they conceived the idea for the concert with the realization that they had an obligation to both their family and the 128,000 people living with NF to educate others about the disorder. Although it is a common genetic disorder, most people are not aware that one in 2,500 people are born with it making it more common than cystic fibrosis, hereditary muscular dystrophy, Huntington’s disease, and Tay Sachs combined.

Every year, Emma has supplied Leibow and his wife all the inspiration they need to make this event a success, but this year, they have even more to fight for. “Last year, we discovered a complex of tumors in Emma’s leg that carry the threat of becoming an incurable cancer. This year, an annual MRI exposed another tumor on her optic nerve,” said Leibow. “Watching NF affect Emma like this is heartbreaking, and it is why we will continue fighting for her and the NF community.”

Tickets start at $49 and can be purchased at any box office at The Venetian or The Palazzo, online at palazzo.com, or by calling 702-414-9000 or 866-641-7469. A select number of VIP tickets are available.  VIP tickets include exclusive gifts, sponsor recognition and prime seating at the October 21 concert and are available by emailing info@nfhope.org. The NF Hope Concert also features a lavish silent auction including priceless experiences, ticket packages to the top shows on the Strip, hotel stay packages, celebrity experiences, Broadway experiences, restaurant gift certificates, spa certificates, and more. Access to the silent auction begins Wednesday, Oct. 11 via https://nfhopelv.auction-bid.org. The auction will open for viewing at 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event.
