2014 FRIGHT DOME


Kicking off the annual 2014 Fright Dome opening night was legendary horror star Sid Haig (Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses); famed Hollywood FX artist Gary J. Tunnicliffe (Gone Girl, Hellraiser, Halloween, Exorcist); Lead Paranormal Investigator/Executive Producer from Travel Channel’s Series “Ghost Adventures” Zak Bagans; Paranormal Investigator/Cameraman from Travel Channel’s Series “Ghost Adventures” Aaron Goodwin; Illusionist Dan Sperry; Dirk Virmin from A&E’s “Bad Ink”; renowned magician Lance Burton; Fright Dome owner and creator Jason Egan; and more .

This year's theme is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a theme that has been requested by Fright Dome fans for many years. Guests will be immersed in scenes from the iconic film, leaving them to fend off attacks from one of the most notorious chainsaw-wielding killers ever created, Leatherface. No corner is safe as guests fight their way through in hopes of escaping the cannibals in pursuit.
This year's Fright Dome features six haunted houses: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Isolation, Killer Clowns 4-D, Hillbilly Hell Offspring, Zombie Quarantine 2.0, and Dead End.
Four new scare zones: Redrum Zone, Dead West Zone, Hyper Charged Zone, Clown Overload Zone.
Live Shows, Park Attraction such as the new El Loco Roller Coaster in the dark, Limb Blaster, and more.
The Fright Dome has been ranked one of the top 4 scariest haunted attractions in the nation.

The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas Celebrated their 20th Anniversary At Mirage Resort



The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas held their First Annual Taste of Hospitality: 20 Years of Changing Lives on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at the Mirage pool. The event  featured tastings from premiere restaurants such as Bacchanal Buffet, BurGR, Fleur, Giada - The Restaurant, Gilley's Saloon, Dance Hall & BBQ, Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, Gordon Ramsay Steak, Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen & Bar, Heritage Steak, Lakeside Seafood, Lemongrass, Nine Fine Irishmen, Olives, Portofino, R Steak & Seafood, Seafood Shack, and Tender Steak & Seafood. Entertainment was provided by top local DJs, including CAPTN20, Karma, Sir Pearce, Ikon, Shift, and Que. Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada provided a full and open bar with craft beer, wine, and cocktails. In addition, a silent auction and raffle  offered a variety of items such as art, collectibles, and staycations. www.theculinaryacademy.org.
The Academy presented 20 scholarships to local nonprofit organizations, including the Asian Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce of Nevada, HELP USA, Latin Chamber of Commerce, Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club, Opportunity Village, The Shade Tree, Three Square Food Bank, and Urban Chamber of Commerce.
In the past two decades, the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas has trained more than 40,000 people for successful hospitality careers on the Strip. The nonprofit Academy is dedicated to its vision of reducing poverty and unemployment by providing vocational, customer service, and English language skills to youth, adults, and displaced workers.
The event honored Congressman Steven Horsford; George Seess, chef emeritus; Jim Bonaventure, director of legal affairs, Culinary Union Local 226; Mayumi Camarao, alumna; MGM Resorts International; Nevada Partners, Inc.; and Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada. All proceeds from the event benefit Academy students.

2014 Easter Seals Nevada's 2nd Annual Women's Tea


The 2nd Annual Women's Tea to benefit Easter Seals was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas on Monday, August 18th.  Easter Seals Nevada honored Olivia Newton-John with First-Ever "Four Star Award" for Outstanding Charitable Contributions.
One of the world's most beloved entertainers and philanthropists, Newton-John has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, been honored with numerous awards, topped the charts with ten No. 1 hits and starred in the classic musical films "Grease" with John Travolta and "Xanadu" with Gene Kelly. After nearly 10 years of fundraising, Olivia is thrilled that the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre (ONJCWC) opened in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia in 2012. A portion of every ticket sold to her Flamingo concerts will benefit the ONJCWC.


Her Flamingo residency will run through January 2015.


Easter Seals Nevada also honored three remarkable ladies who have made a significant impact to the Las Vegas community and in the Easter Seals organization. The 2014 Women's Tea "Tremendous Three" honorees included:

THE SECOND ANNUAL NEVADA BOXING INDUCTEES DINNER

Two inductees legends Evander Holyfield and Roberto Duran shared the honor of their induction with former foes Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard on Saturday, August 9th at the Tropicana Hotel.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was honored as Nevada Fighter of the Year by the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame at its Annual Induction Ceremony/Dinner. It is the second straight year Mayweather takes the honor, following his victories over Canelo Alvarez
in September, 2013, and hard-fought decision over Marcos Maidana in May, 2014. Mayweather  received the honor on the same night 18 other Inductees were brought into the NVBHOF, and several other Special Achievement Award winners were honored. The gala event took place in the Cohiba Ballroom inside the New Tropicana, Las Vegas. Which included a social hour and silent auction followed by a delicious dinner and a live aution and special recognitions, honors throughout the evening.

Grumpy Cat Makes Her Vegas Debut at Kitson on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

The world's grumpiest cat made a special appearance arriving in a limo at the world's largest Kitson store in Las Vegas to debut her second book.



 


Her new book The Grumpy Guide to Life: Observations by Grumpy Cat ($12.95 US, $15.95 Canada, Chronicle Books) is available now. Fans had the opportunity to pose with Grumpy Cat after purchasing her book.
