Presenters, performers named for 2014 NHL Awards

Two-hour broadcast on NBCSN, CBC will feature musical performance by Phillip Phillips

Current and former NHL stars, including members of the 2014 Stanley Cup  champion Los Angeles Kings, headline the lineup of presenters, nominees and special guests for the 2014 NHL Awards, the National Hockey League's celebration of the best of the 2013-14 season, on and off the ice. Hosted by renowned television and radio broadcaster George Stroumboulopoulos, the 2014 NHL Awards will broadcast live from the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBCSN in the U.S. and on CBC in Canada.

Current and former NHLers P.K. Subban, Chris Pronger, Rich Peverley, Danny DeKeyser, Michael Peca and Luc Robitaille will present alongside notable hockey fans David Boreanaz ("Bones"), Cuba Gooding Jr. ("The Butler"), Retta ("Parks and Recreation"), Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family") and David Walton ("About a Boy"). Longtime hockey fans Michael J. Fox ("Family Ties"), Susan Sarandon ("Tammy"), James Lipton ("Insider the Actor's Studio"), Kevin Connolly ("Entourage") and Whoopi Goldberg ("The View") also will be featured during the broadcast in pre-taped segments.
On the heels of winning their second Stanley Cup in three years, members of the Kings, including forwards Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar, will make a special appearance with the iconic trophy.
Also scheduled to present are NBC's Doc Emrick and Eddie Olczyk, who will announce the winner of the EA SPORTS' NHL 15 Cover Vote, with a special appearance by the hip-hop dance crew Jabbawockeez, who perform their show "PRiSM" nightly at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Hockey legends Ted Lindsay and Mark Messier also will take to the stage to announce the winner of their namesake awards – the Ted Lindsay Award, honoring the most outstanding player in the regular season as judged by members of the NHLPA, and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award presented by Bridgestone, which recognizes a player who leads by positive example through on-ice performance, motivation of team members, and a dedication to community activities and charitable causes.

Award nominees include Ryan Getzlaf and Bob Murray of the Anaheim Ducks; Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara and Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins; Manny Malhotra of the Carolina Hurricanes; Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks; Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan O'Reilly, Patrick Roy and Semyon Varlamov of the Colorado Avalanche; Mike Babcock of the Detroit Red Wings; Brown, Kopitar, Dean Lombardi and Jonathan Quick of the Kings; Marc Bergevin of the Montreal Canadiens; Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators; Jaromir Jagr of the New Jersey Devils; Dominic Moore and Martin St. Louis of the New York Rangers; Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers; Brent Burns and Patrick Marleau of the San Jose Sharks; Ben Bishop, Jon Cooper, Ondrej Palat and Tyler Johnson of the Tampa Bay Lightning;

In addition, the broadcast will recognize Edmonton Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference, this year's recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his leadership on and off the ice and his noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community; Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby, winner of the Art Ross Trophy as the regular-season scoring champion; and Washington Capitals right wing Alex Ovechkin, who will receive his fourth career Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the League's goal-scoring leader.
The broadcast also will feature a special performance from platinum recording artist Phillip Phillips. The award-winning DJ Steve Porter, known for his sports remixes, will entertain the audience throughout the show.

NHL Network and NHL.com will provide extensive coverage of the 2014 NHL Awards festivities. NHL.com will simulcast NHL Network's exclusive live coverage of the 2014 NHL Awards Red Carpet Show, hosted by Kathryn Tappen, Barry Melrose, Heidi Androl and Kevin Weekes from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. ET, followed by the 2014 NHL Awards Recap Show starting at 9:00 p.m. ET.
NHL Social, in conjunction with Twitter, will have two Twitter Mirrors on site to engage with the nominees, presenters, broadcast talent and guests and give fans a sneak peek and real-time exclusive access to the red carpet and backstage at the Encore Theater. 2014 "SWING INTO SUMMER" benefitting the American Lung Assocaition Las Vegas

The American Lung Association of Las Vegas hosted its Annual Fashion Show and Dinner on Friday, June 6th at the beautiful Las Vegas Country Club.








                                                   

The event started of with a Reception and Silent Auction where guestwere able to bid on great items
donated by the Las Vegas Community such as local show tickets, restaurants certificates, spa treatments, hotel stays, work out sessions, a various collections of fine wines, jewelry, handbags, paintings and more.



Followed by a Fashion Show and Dinner which started of with the delicious “The Summer Salad which consisted of Butter Lettuce, Pickled Radish, Snap Peas, Carrots, Crispy Wonton and Mango Ginger Vinaigrette.
Followed by “Welcome to the Beach Entree” consisted of Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Filet Paired with Coriander Chicken Breast with Cilantro Lime Cimmichurri, Roasted Plantain, Sweet Potato Hash, and Sauteed Baby Bak Choy.

And last but not least the “An Island Treat” consisted of Roasted Pineapple Upside Down Cake with Macadamia Nut Brittel.

Adam London served as the Master of Ceremonies, and with a special performance by Kaela Johnson-Smith and Michael Shane.

HAPPENING'S AROUND TOWN

Vintage Vegas Food Tour
 
 Vegas Valley Food Tours is a combination of walking and guided bus tour stopping at five vintage restaurants for tastings of their finest menu items. Each restaurant has been part of the Las Vegas community for 25 years or more. The tour also includes highlights of the historic architecture and cultural features that put Las Vegas on the map. 




First Stop: The Flame Steakouse, El Cortez Hotel & Casino:


El Cortez Hotel & Casino opened in 1941 in the heart of the city's entertainment district at 600 Fremont Street. It was the largest and most fashionable hotel/casino on Fremont Street for many year's, and the steakhouse has been a local favorit for generations. El Cortez is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest, continuously operating casino operating under the same name in the United States.

Second Stop: Top of Binion's Steakhouse, Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel:


Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel opened at 128 Fremont Street as Binion's Horseshoe Club in 1951 when Binion bought the eldorado Club and Apache Hotel. The original building was constructed in 1932. It is said that the Horseshoe Club was the first gambling hall to offer air conditioning and carpet. The property expanded in 1960 and 1988, increasing the size of the property to an entire block. Although the World Series of Poker no longer occurs at the property, Binion's is still recognized among poker enthusiasts as the place that made poker famous. The Binion family owned and operated the casino until 2004.

    Third Stop: Hugo's Cellar Four Queens Hotel & Casino


    Hugo's Cellar opened in the Four Queens during an expansion in the mid-1970s, aproximately 10 years after the Four Queens was completed in 1966. The casino is named after the builder Ben Goffstein's wife and three daughters. The historic bullnose neon sign is an icon of Glitter Gulch.

      Fourth Stop: Chicago Joe's Restaurant:


      Chicago Joe's opened in 1975 in a house built in 1933. Joe and his family added the Chicago brick and flower box of the front of the house and began serving original family recipes from Joe's Sicilian grandmother, including the famous Grandma's meatballs and shrimp parmigiana. The back room was a favorite lunch spot for former mayor and the attorney Oscar Goodman and mobster Tony Spilatro as they strategized for Mr. Spilatro's trial.

        Fifth Stop: Tiffany's Cafe White Cross Market:


        Tiffany's Cafe opened in the White Cross Drugstore in 1955 as the city's first all-night diner catering to Strip performers such as the Rat Pack. The diner is known for its 1950s style lunch counter and menu, with signature dishes including the chicken fried steak breakfast, Tiffany burger, biscuits and gravy and milk shakes. Tiffany's is a neighborhood favorite, catering to visitors and residents of downtown Las Vegas.

    Sixth Optional Stop: Atomic Liquors:


    Atomic Liquors is the oldest freestanding bar in Las Vegas. Originally founded by Joe & Stella Sobchik in 1952, Atomic Liquors was named for a time when customers watched atomic blasts from the roof. The building was originally built as Virginia's Cafe in 1946. The huge wrap around bar and landmark neon sign were built when the cafe converted to a bar. In 2012 the Sobchik's son sold the bar to the Johns brothers who remodeled it to its original glory. Like other historic stops on the tour, famous entertainers drank here after their nightly shows. Barbara Streisand even had her own seat which has been restored and is on display.
